SCHOTT Corporation Nexterion Slide E For Covalent Probe Binding With Microarrays

10/19/2005 5:11:34 PM

DURYEA, Pa., June 1 /PRNewswire/ -- SCHOTT Nexterion, Duryea PA, supplier of microarray solutions, has developed Nexterion(TM) Slide E, which offers users the advantage of an active coating chemistry for the immobilization of oligonucleotides. Slide E is the first commercially available epoxy slide.

The active layer is made up of reactive epoxy groups that form an immediate and irreversible covalent bond with all the probe's nucleophilic groups, without requiring UV cross-linking or reduction. An amino modification of the oligonucleotide is only necessary when spotting short oligonucleotides (less than or equal to 25 mers). Nexterion Slide E also makes the spotting of small spots possible and consequently high-density microarrays with regular and reproducible spot morphology. The surface chemistry is stable and remains active even during long spotting runs.

For the spotting of PCR products, SCHOTT Nexterion offers slides with aminosilane and aldehyde coatings. The aminosilane slides, Nexterion Slide A and Nexterion Slide A+ afford the user particulary flexible application possibilities. Using the same protocol, PCR molecules and even longer oligonucleotides (greater than or equal to 50 mers) can be spotted on this aminosilane surface. As both slide types also work with common PCR protocols, users have a problem-free changeover to these SCHOTT Nexterion slides, without requiring the time-consuming re-optimization of the assay process.

All SCHOTT Nexterion coated slides are manufactured using a special borosilicate glass. The low inherent fluorescence of the glass substrate together with the homogenous coating of the different slide types guarantee excellent sensitivity and uniform, optimized spots in microarray experiments.

SCHOTT Nexterion offers users a proactive consultancy service for all application queries. With this service, customers have access to the experience gathered by SCHOTT Nexterion, the market pioneer. In addition, for first-time users there is a starter kit with optimized reagents for spotting and hybridization.

SCHOTT Nexterion, a division of SCHOTT North America, Inc., is specialized in high quality microarray solutions. As such, the company develops and markets a wide range of coated and uncoated glass substrates for DNA and protein microarraying. SCHOTT Nexterion continuously expands its product portfolio and has several innovative products in the development pipeline. SCHOTT Nexterion has operations in Mainz and Jena, Germany and an R&D facility in Duryea, Pennsylvania (USA).

SCHOTT is an international technology-driven group that sees its core purpose as the lasting improvement of living and working conditions through special materials and high-tech solutions. Its main areas of focus are the household appliances industry, optics and opto-electronics, pharmaceuticals, information technology, consumer electronics, lighting, automotive engineering and solar energy.
