International Technidyne Corporation (THOR) Announces A New Name For ITC's Point-Of-Care Blood Analysis System

10/19/2005 5:10:26 PM

EDISON, N.J., March 12 /PRNewswire/ -- International Technidyne, Inc. (ITC), a subsidiary of Thoratec, Inc. , announced today a new name for its recently acquired IRMA blood analysis system. The newly designated IRMA TRUpoint measures pH, blood gases, hematocrit, electrolytes and other chemistries. Unlike near-patient-testing systems, IRMA TRUpoint is completely self-contained and portable, weighing in at just over five pounds. Powered by battery or AC, it can be easily transported to critical areas throughout the hospital, such as the OR, NICU, ICU, CCU -- or wherever your patient may be.

"The new name reflects the system's unique advantages," said Lawrence Cohen, President of ITC. "IRMA TRUpoint delivers immediate, accurate results at a patient's bedside -- the true point of hospital care. It enables clinicians to make more timely diagnoses and treatment decisions, ultimately resulting in improved patient care."

IRMA TRUpoint can deliver patient results in 90 seconds, thanks to its electrochemical sensor technology and single-use test cartridges. Other system features include automatic quality control, patient and cartridge bar code scanning, operator security features, results printing and data management, all onboard. "With the addition of IRMA TRUpoint, ITC is the only company offering a full line of coagulation and critical care tests for bedside point- of-care testing," Cohen said. "All of our products feature the accuracy and reliability laboratorians demand and the portability, ease-of-use and rapid results clinicians prefer."

A point-of-care leader for more than 35 years, ITC is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Thoratec, Inc. The company develops, manufactures and markets a full line of portable medical devices for true point-of-care testing. Products include HEMOCHRON(R) point-of-care coagulation instruments and reagents; IRMA TRUpoint Blood Analysis System for blood gas and electrolyte testing; precision skin incision devices such as tenderfoot(R), Tenderlett(R) and Surgicutt(R); the HgB Pro Professional Hemoglobin Testing System(TM) and the ProTime(R) Microcoagulation System for prothrombin time testing at home and for professional use.

For more information, visit http://www.itcmed.com/ or call 1-800-631-5945 or 732-548-6677 outside the U.S. IRMA TRUpoint and HgB Pro Professional Hemoglobin Testing System are trademarks and IRMA, HEMOCHRON, tenderfoot, Tenderlett, Surgicutt and ProTime are registered trademarks of ITC.
