Schleicher & Schuell BioScience, Inc. And KREATECH Biotechnology B.V. Ink Supply And Marketing License Agreement

10/19/2005 5:11:19 PM

KEENE, New Hampshire and AMSTERDAM, the Netherlands, August 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Schleicher & Schuell BioScience, Inc. and KREATECH Biotechnology BV announce signing of an agreement for incorporation of Kreatech's patented Universal Linkage System (ULS(TM)) into Schleicher & Schuell's new Two Color Labeling and Fluorescent Detection Kit. The S&S(R) Two Color Labeling and Fluorescent Detection Kit is intended for use with the recently launched S&S Serum Biomarker Chip.

The S&S Serum Biomarker Chip contains 120 different antibodies spotted on S&S FAST Slides, and is intended for rapid profiling of known serum biomarkers. Each serum sample applied to the Serum Biomarker Chip is labeled with either ULS-biotin or ULS-fluorescein, then pooled and probed against the antibody microarray in a competitive binding fashion. The bound labeled serum proteins are detected using fluorescent Dy(TM) dyes from Dyomics GmbH using either a streptavidin-Dy(TM)647 conjugate or an anti-fluorescein antibody-Dy(TM)547 conjugate. The processed microarray is scanned at two different wavelengths on a standard two-color fluorescent scanner. KREATECH, holder of a license from Dyomics GmbH (Jena, Germany), has sub-licensed the use of the Dyomics dye conjugates to Schleicher & Schuell for use in its protein array products and services.

The use of the ULS labeling system minimizes background using indirect fluorescence detection, labels multiple amino acids, and is ready to use, as it requires no need to purchase additional materials.

"S&S has broken through the density limitation of antibody chips through the use of KREATECH's ULS protein labeling system. This is another example of how S&S is delivering on the promise of high density antibody chips and addresses high-throughput technology needs in cancer research" said Robert Negm, PhD, Director, Business Development at S&S.

"We are very pleased to have our first ULS license agreement for protein labeling in place with a company as renowned as Schleicher & Schuell BioScience. With their high density antibody chips based on the FAST Slides platform, S&S is well-positioned to play a leading role in the proteomics market and to put our proprietary ULS-platform on the map for protein labeling applications. This agreement further consolidates KREATECH's leading position when it comes to a novel approach in labeling of biomolecules", said Alexander Altink, Chief Executive Officer of KREATECH.

About Schleicher & Schuell BioScience, Inc.

Schleicher & Schuell Bioscience, Inc., in Keene, New Hampshire, USA and Dassel, Germany, manufactures products for protein arraying, molecular biology research and clinical diagnostics.

About KREATECH Biotechnology B.V.

KREATECH Biotechnology B.V., in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, focuses on the creation, development, production and marketing of innovative molecular diagnostic and life sciences products. The company positions itself as a strategic partner for life sciences, diagnostic and pharmaceutical companies. KREATECH's proprietary Universal Linkage System (ULS(TM)) offers a reliable, robust and easy to use non-enzymatic labeling technology that can be applied to a broad range of biomolecules and labeling agents. ULS is already successfully incorporated in the manufacturing of hapten- and fluorophore-labeled DNA probes for in situ hybridization, and in genomic DNA and direct RNA labeling kits for array-based CGH and expression analysis applications, respectively, marketed by KREATECH's commercial partners.

KREATECH is committed to achieve and maintain the highest standards in production and Quality Control as well as in the relationships with our customers and partners. The company's quality policies are demonstrated by the implementation of ISO 9001 (2000) and ISO 13485 (GMP 2003) guidelines. More information on KREATECH can be accessed at
