West Michigan Woman First In World To Get Life-Saving Heart Device

A West Michigan woman with heart disease became the first in the world to receive a new life-saving medical device, thanks to a “full court press” by Spectrum Health to get permission from federal regulators. Mary Bostwick, a 54-year-old woman from Hersey, underwent a procedure using a unique stent to create a permanent opening between the right and left atria – the upper chambers of her heart.
