WaferGen Biosystems Raises $13.7 Million in Funding

Fremont-based WaferGen has raised $13.7 million of a $15 million equity financing round, according to an SEC filing. Investors were not identified, but the company disclosed that 179 investors have been involved in staking the company. The life sciences company's primary product is the SmartChip Real-Time PCR System -- a genetic analysis platform for profiling and validating molecular biomarkers, an important step in drug discovery.
