W. L. Gore & Associates, Inc. Showcases New Endovascular Repair Simulation Technology at VIVA

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz.--(EON: Enhanced Online News)--W. L. Gore & Associates, Inc. (Gore) today unveiled the latest in medical simulation technology at the Vascular Interventional Advances 2011 (VIVA) Conference in Las Vegas. This game-changing simulation technology—PROcedure Rehearsal Studio, developed in partnership with Simbionix—showcases the GORE® EXCLUDER® AAA Endoprosthesis featuring C3 Delivery System. The innovative software allows endovascular specialists to create a patient specific 3D anatomical model based on a patient’s CT for the purpose of simulating, analyzing and evaluating for preoperative endovascular treatment options.

The new and unique simulators are one of the many practices used in Gore’s Medical Mastery Series, an ongoing training program for endovascular specialists that provides training for physicians in specialized and complicated procedures, such as AAA repair. Physicians are bringing their own cases to the Gore Simulator Pavilion in Chambertin 2 at the Wynn Las Vegas to take advantage of a state-of-the-art method for practicing the delivery of the new GORE C3 Delivery System. Gore will make the technology available at major medical conferences in the fall and throughout 2012.

“Treating patients with vascular disease presents unique challenges for physicians and trainees who must continue to educate themselves on new modalities and technologies,” said Dr. Jason Lee, MD, Director of Endovascular Surgery at Stanford University Medical Center. “We have found increasing evidence as to the improvement in education and patient care using high-fidelity simulation for surgical training. VIVA is a great opportunity for endovascular specialists to appreciate the focus on education and learning new technologies, all designed to enhance performance and outcomes in endovascular procedures.” Dr. Lee is a funded researcher into the benefit of physician training and patient outcome utilizing surgical simulation.

Rapid advances in technology, combined with a demand for increased patient safety, have led to a growing interest among physicians in simulation as a training tool to prepare for complex procedures without the potential for harm. As a result, Gore is utilizing this latest advancement in medical simulation technology for the purpose of enhancing pre-case planning and advancing medical education while working in collaboration with leading endovascular specialists and Simbionix.

“Whether it is delivering the latest in case simulation technology, the newest 3D advanced case visualization decision support system, or an extensive family of Gore Medical Devices, Gore is tirelessly committed to driving medical innovation and delivering the newest tools into the hands of vascular surgeons and radiologists to improve performance in endovascular procedures and patient outcomes,” commented David Abeyta, Gore Aortic Business Leader.
