The Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), founded in 1921, is an independent nonpartisan membership organization, think tank and publisher with more than 4,500 members worldwide. Basu, a former White House Fellow and Stanford University faculty physician, was also recently appointed by the Governor to the Illinois State Board of Health which advises the Director of the Illinois Department of Public Health in meeting health objectives for the state, developing policy, assessing needs and assuring access to services for public health emergencies and other health hazards.
