VetiCell Launches Veterinary Stem Cell Preservation Program

ATLANTA, March 14, 2016 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- VetiCell, LLC has announced the launch of its proactive stem cell preservation program for horses and dogs. Animal owners can now save the stem cells from a young and healthy animal for potential use in the future.

Even though stem cell therapy is not new, and has been used in thousands of animals with orthopedic disease and injury, its potential is far from fully developed. Regenerative medicine research continues at a rapid pace.  In university research centers, stem cells are being studied by veterinarians to treat osteoarthritis, eye diseases, immune-mediated and inflammatory diseases, as well as organ disorders.

Working with veterinarians to collect the samples, dog owners can now preserve the stem cells found in reproductive tissues after a spay or neuter; and horse owners or breeders can preserve the stem cells from the umbilical cord at foaling.   "The prevalent method has been to wait until the animal is disabled and then perform an invasive surgery to obtain tissue for the stem cells", says VetiCell Sales & Marketing Manager, Jeremy Gentry.  "Now owners can save cells prior to illness in a noninvasive and much more affordable procedure."

Two years in development, which included a University Veterinary Medical School study to validate the procurement and laboratory process, VetiCell was conceived to provide a more animal friendly and affordable way to plan for Stem Cell Therapy.  "Based on our thirteen years preserving newborn stem cells through our human stem cell company, AlphaCord, we are well positioned and experienced to offer a similar service to the veterinary market", said Hal Rogness, VP.
