Mac Curtis, president and chief executive officer of Vencore, served as the 2015 Greater Washington Heart Walk Chair.  Curtis took on the responsibility of chairman because he believes that the Heart Walk promotes heart-healthy lifestyles and can save lives.

"At Vencore, our employees are our most important assets," said Curtis. "As a result, health and fitness programs for our workforce are paramount to the success of our company.  I could not be prouder of the Vencore team for working together to raise such a significant amount of money to support this worthy and lifesaving cause."

Vencore employees participated in many activities at its locations around the country during an eight-month effort to raise money for the American Heart Association.  Some of those activities included employee social events, charity auctions, athletic events and the Vencore Has Heart Golf Tournament.

Heart disease remains the number one killer in the United States. In 2011, the American Heart Association launched the 2020 impact goal to improve the cardiovascular health of all Americans by 20 percent while reducing deaths from cardiovascular diseases and stroke by 20 percent. Achieving this goal will save an estimated 863 lives per day, a real game changer for cardiovascular health.

"The Greater Washington Heart Walk is the largest fundraiser in the Mid-Atlantic Affiliate," said Soula Antoniou, executive director of the American Heart Association, Greater Washington Region. "This year, with Mac Curtis at the helm, the Heart Walk raised a record over $1.85 million in support of vital cardiovascular research. We are so grateful for this accomplishment that will help to save lives."

"Each and every one of us could be touched by cardiovascular disease or stroke at some point in our lives. Whether donating funds or living a healthy lifestyle, we owe it to ourselves, our loved ones and our community to get involved," says Curtis.
