Velocity Medical Solutions Previews New Cancer Imaging and Data Sharing Platform at 2012 AAPM Meeting

ATLANTA, GA and CHARLOTTE, NC--(Marketwire - July 30, 2012) -

Velocity Medical Solutions' upcoming cancer imaging and data sharing platform is highlighting the company's exhibit at the 2012 meeting of the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM) this week in Booth #1069 in Charlotte, NC. Over 200 cancer centers worldwide currently use Velocity software to more accurately target oncologic tumors, monitor patient response to treatment and optimize outcomes.

In addition to previewing the new software release, Velocity is hosting a luncheon on multi-modality deformable image registration and evaluation tools for physicists and dosimetrists.

Velocity 3.0: Connecting Oncology
Velocity is showcasing the next release of VelocityAI, Version 3.0, which will be available in first quarter 2013. In addition to industry-leading deformable image registration tools for PET/CT, MRI, adaptive and dose summation, Velocity 3.0 features a new hybrid segmentation system to more accurately and quickly contour normal tissue. Velocity 3.0 also includes new integrated clinical messaging and workflow tools, enabling improved communication and clinical collaboration.

Velocity is also debuting its cloud-based oncology data exchange platform, VelocityConnect. With VelocityConnect, different institutions and clinicians can better collaborate on patient imaging and seamlessly exchange data between different centers.

"Connecting oncologists and cancer centers in the cloud is a major step towards bringing imaging and RT information to a shared network of designated users, regardless of their location," said Michael Crocker, marketing director of Velocity Medical Solutions. "Secure, on-demand access to RT data and oncology imaging, merged with our advanced imaging platform, is helping clinicians on our network improve outcomes and patient care."

The company is also showing VelocityGRID, which combines the industry's only true oncology PACS with leading-edge clinical tools, meeting the unique needs of RT oncology. This platform enables clinicians to make treatment decisions with greater confidence based on multiple imaging modes, total dose mapping, and a complete record of patient images and plans. VelocityGRID provides comprehensive image integration and easy dose summation, offering new levels of accuracy and safety. Velocity frees clinicians to access and review plans with anywhere, anytime mobility.

Velocity Sponsored Luncheon
Velocity will host its second annual AAPM Lunch Symposium, "Connecting Oncology: Clinical Applications of Multi-Modality Deformable Image Registration," to highlight the science behind deformable image registration and where the technology offers clinical utility. The luncheon features three speakers:

  • Tim Fox, PhD, Associate Professor of Radiation Oncology, Emory University. Dr. Fox is speaking on the use of VelocityGRID at Emory University, and how VelocityGRID enables advanced treatment planning methods.
  • Eduard Schreibmann, PhD, Assistant Professor of Radiation Oncology, Emory University. Dr. Schreibmann will speak on the use of multi-modality deformable image registration and evaluation methods.
  • Jean Pouliot, PhD, Professor, Vice Chair and Director of the Division of Medical Physics at the University of California San Francisco. Dr. Pouliot will speak on the need for application-based adaptation of deformable image registration.

About Velocity Medical Solutions Velocity is a privately held, Atlanta-based company focused solely on improving the planning and delivery of radiotherapy. The company was founded in 2005 by a team of seasoned oncology professionals with expertise in clinical outcomes, radiation treatment planning and software development for oncology. Velocity's solution set includes the first PACS system designed to meet the specific needs of oncology and industry-leading software tools that facilitate planning, treatment and review. Because Velocity is vendor-neutral, clinicians finally have a fully integrated record of all image, all structure and all dose data, regardless of origin.
