University City Science Center Disrupting The Playing Field: Where Sports, Innovation & Technology Collide Science Center’s Smart Talk Session Features Entrepreneurs, Innovators And Sports Industry Professionals

PHILADELPHIA--(December 8, 2015) – From wearable devices that can improve performance to fan engagement platforms, the business of innovation is taking over sports. On Thursday, December 15th a panel of entrepreneurs, innovators and a Philadelphia Eagles front office executive will explore how technology is disrupting the playing field at a Smart Talk session. Smart Talk will run from 8:30 – 10:30 a.m. at Quorum at the University City Science Center, 3711 Market Street, Suite 800, Philadelphia.

Panelists include:

• Antoine Galand, Technology Lead, GraphWear Technologies

• Howie Roseman, Executive Vice President of Football Operations, Philadelphia Eagles

• Brian Selander, Executive Vice President, Whistle Sports

• Dave Voyles, Tech Evangelist, Microsoft

• Wayne Kimmel of SeventySix Capital will moderate

A 2014 Forbes article predicted that sports could be the next industry to produce massive valuations for tech startups. In a 2015 GeekWire article, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella proclaimed that “there isn’t another industry that is being so fundamentally transformed with data and digital technology like sports.” Brands from Nike, Under Armour and Gatorade to professional NFL, NBA and MBL teams are investing in innovation that will improve performance, analytics and bottom lines. As diverse as these innovations and ideas are, technology is at the core of it all with seemingly no limit to its impact on the industry.

Smart Talk is a quarterly Science Center program that gives startup and growing companies a look at best practices and business strategies from industry leaders in the region.
