BRIBERY SETTLEMENTS: British orthopedics maker Smith & Nephew has agreed to pay $22.2 million to settle U.S. criminal and civil allegations that, for more than a decade, it bribed doctors employed by the Greek government to win business. WIDER US INVESTIGATION: Smith & Nephew’s settlements with the Justice Department and the Securities and Exchange Commission are the latest results of a federal investigation into allegations that medical device companies have bribed doctors employed by governments overseas.
