MILFORD Conn., June 20, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- SurgiQuest, Inc. ("SurgiQuest", the "Company") today announced that Tom Dugan has joined the Company as President and Chief Commercialization Officer. Prior to his arrival at SurgiQuest, Mr. Dugan served as President, North America, of Smith & Nephew Wound Management since 2008. Before that, Tom served as Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Sonosite from 2005 to 2008 and as President of Intervascular, Inc. of Datascope from 2002 to 2004. After starting his career as a sales representative at Johnson & Johnson's Critikon division, Tom later ascended to leadership roles in sales, marketing, and business development at C.R. Bard, United States Surgical and Puritan-Bennett, two of which are now part of Covidien.

"I'm joining an organization with both great individuals and disruptive technology," stated Mr. Dugan. "I've had the pleasure of working with most of the team previously and am confident that we will achieve our aggressive growth plans and establish the AirSeal System as the new standard of care for both robotic and laparoscopic surgery."

"We are absolutely thrilled by Tom Dugan's arrival," said Mr. Kurt Azarbarzin, Founder and CEO of SurgiQuest. "Tom has a strong, successful track record in not only driving significant revenue and market share growth at companies with game-changing technology, but doing so with both a scalable and profitable approach."

SurgiQuest's patented AirSeal® Access System provides unprecedented access to the abdominal cavity during minimally invasive surgery ("MIS"). Unlike conventional insufflation and trocar systems, the Company's breakthrough integrated platform assures stable pneumoperitoneum, continuously evacuates smoke and plume when energized medical devices such as electrocautery, laser or ultrasound are used, and provides valve-free access to the abdominal cavity during both laparoscopic and robotic surgical procedures.
