Tiny Novitium Pharma Relocates and Hopes to Hire 150+ New Staffers in the Next Two Years

EAST WINDSOR, N.J. – Privately held Novitium Pharmaceuticals has relocated to a new site in East Windsor and has plans to go on a massive hiring spree over the next year, according to NJ Biz.

Since shifting from its old site in Plainfield, N.J., the company has already more than doubled its staff from 20 to 46 employees. By the end of 2017 the company anticipates having approximately 100 employees and will continue to hire another 100 employees in 2018, according to reports.

Novitium makes generic drugs and markets directly to pharmacies such as CVS, Walgreen’s and Rite Aid, NJ Biz said. The company has taken over a 45,000 square foot site, which is currently undergoing some renovations, according to reports. Renovations include new office and laboratory space, as well as manufacturing and packaging space.

Novitium was founded by Muthusamy “Samy” Shanmugam. According to the company website, Novitium strives “to control every aspect of our quality standards, speed to market, and customer and patient demands through our state-of-the-art facility.”

Novitium is not the only company to make its home in East Windsor. Earlier this year, Aurobindo USA, a subsidiary of India-based Aurobindo Pharma, broke ground on its planned 575,000 square-foot manufacturing and distribution facility–a site expected to bring up to 400 new jobs. The East Windsor site will be the new corporate home of the company, Robert Cunard, chief executive officer of Aurobindo USA told NJ Biz in August. The company is currently manning a 43,000 square foot facility in the area and told NJ Biz that it anticipates having 100 new hires by the end of the year. The company currently runs two facilities in central New Jersey for a total of about 300,000 square feet of laboratory, manufacturing, distribution and administrative space. Aurobindo USA has a broad portfolio of generic drugs that includes more than 125 product families and 450 individual product packages. Aurobindo USA is based in New Jersey.

Other companies in the town include Hovione, Fordoz Pharma, Elementis, CoreTech Solutions, Aprecia, Aurex Laboratories, Sabinsa and Windsor Labs, NC Biz said.

Chad Gassert, chief executive officer of Novitium, told NJ Biz the company is excited to grow its business in East Windsor. Gassert said the location is in the “breadbasket of the pharmaceutical industry.” Because of the high number of companies located there, Gassert indicated filling the high number of positions the company hopes for should not be difficult given the “access to a highly talented workforce within a business friendly and collaborative environment.”
