10/19/2005 5:13:08 PM

WALTHAM, Mass., Sept. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Epitome Biosystems announced today that Thomas Joos, Ph.D., and Forest White, Ph.D. have joined its scientific advisory board. Dr. Joos heads the biochemistry department at the NMI Natural and Medical Sciences Institute at the University of Tuebingen and is a widely recognized expert on protein microarray technology. Dr. White is an assistant professor in the recently created Division of Biological Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where his research program is pursuing the identification and quantification of protein phosphorylation events regulating signal transduction cascades associated with cancer and other biological processes. They join a distinguished board including Ruedi Aebersold, Ph.D., Noubar Afeyan, Ph.D., Joseph Davie, M.D., Ph.D., Richard DiMarchi, Ph.D., Samir Hanash, M.D., Ph.D., Joe Jacobson, Ph.D. and Fred Regnier, Ph.D.

Neal Gordon, Ph.D., President of Epitome stated, "We are honored to have both Thomas Joos and Forest White join with us as we pioneer the development of tools for the rapidly advancing field of measurement proteomics. Their contributions will sharpen our ability to introduce compelling new products."

"The market place clearly sees the value of mutiplex, antibody-based protein measurement. The most significant hurdle for the development of new products is the availability of high quality antibodies that function well in a multiplex platform. Epitome's antibody generation platform represents a major breakthrough towards development of antibody content," said Thomas Joos, Ph.D.

"My research program utilizes mass spectrometry-based technology to study protein phosphorylation on a global scale, allowing for mapping of complex signal transduction cascades in a variety of biological samples. The development of antibody-based tools that enable high throughput, quantitative interrogation of these newly discovered pathways is an important next step in validating these discoveries," said Forest White, Ph.D.

About Epitome Biosystems

Epitome Biosystems is a pioneer in the development of a new breed of protein measurement tools. Its proprietary EpiTag(TM) technology delivers highly specific antibodies and assay standards for quantitation of any protein based solely on sequence. These reagents easily interface with any measurement system including bead based and planar array platforms and are particularly useful in developing micro-scale immunoassays. Epitome Biosystems is backed by funding from Flagship Ventures and Vinod Khosla, with offices in Waltham, MA. For more information, visit
