Thermo Fisher Scientific (TMO) Launches New Cryostat for Higher Quality, More Comfortable Sectioning

RUNCORN, England (July 25, 2011) – Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., the world leader in serving science, today introduced the Thermo Scientific CryoStar NX70 Cryostat for higher sectioning quality and increased user comfort. The new cryostat accommodates a wide range of cryotomy applications for both clinical and research use. The intelligent design of the Cryostar NX70 combines user comfort with Rapid Response Temperature Control and an innovative knife carrier feed to deliver precise section thickness and consistency.

Quick and reproducible instrument set-up is simple with the CryoStar NX70’s intuitive LCD display and electronic touch-screen, together with joystick control. Fine adjustment specimen orientation on all axes enables fast and easy specimen alignment. The innovative Temperature Control system adjusts quickly to changes in settings, enabling rapid cooling, as well as consistent and precise temperature control. Three user-defined favourites enable frequently used temperature settings to be instantly recalled.

The form-fit design of the CryoStar NX70 ensures unparalleled user comfort. Integrated, motorised height adjustment allows users to work comfortably in either a standing or sitting position, eliminating the back and neck strain often associated with frozen sectioning. Motorized cutting reduces user fatigue and avoids repetitive injury, while the large open chamber with bright, adjustable LED lighting provides optimal visibility during sectioning.

Optional extras further enhance the performance and operator safety of the CryoStar NX70. Extras include the Cold-D disinfection system for protection against surface contaminants and Vacutome for wrinkle-free sections and waste removal.
