The state’s life science firms have a heavy representation on this year’s list of the highest-paid executives. While that’s not new, the presence so many biotech firms and medical device firms on that list this year — including at the number one spot — is a change from recent years.
The issue of high-paid CEOs in the biotech industry gained some attention recently when a majority of stockholders at Vertex Pharmaceuticals (Nasdaq: VRTX) voted against the pay package given to CEO Jeff Leiden in a non-bonding vote. The company has said it will take the vote under advisement but has made no moves to change Leiden’s pay package.
