The Day In Review: Biotech Ends Winning Streak

April 11, 2005 Biotech did its best to put together a 5-day winning streak, trading higher through most of the session on Monday. But a bout of profit taking in the final hour brought the index a few points lower by the close. The Centient Biotech 200 dropped almost 15 points, ending at 3163.05, a .46% decline. After the close of trading, Genentech said its Q1 earnings beat the street by two cents, Prana lost 60% during the day after it said manufacturing problems would force it to abandon its Alzheimer's drug, Cell Therapeutics reported good results on its multiple myeloma drug, Sanofi-Aventis got an ominous "approvable" letter on a long-acting form of its blockbuster sedative, Ambien, Bausch & Lomb got FDA approval for an implant that treats a rare eye disease, Human Genome received an upgrade from Lehman Brothers, and Northfield Labs soared on good news about a Phase III trial.
