Teleflex Incorporated Receives FDA 510(k) Clearance for WECK® Reusable Obturators

Teleflex Incorporated (TFX), a leading global provider of medical devices for critical care and surgery, has announced 510(k) clearance for a line of Weck® Reusable Obturators that complement the Weck Vista™ line of bladeless laparoscopic access ports. The stainless steel obturators are compatible with Weck Vista™ single-use cannula options. This addition follows the recent release of the complete Weck Access line and further enhances the Teleflex portfolio for laparoscopic procedures.

Access devices are small tubes inserted into the abdomen and are used as portals for surgical instruments during minimally invasive procedures. Teleflex offers minimally invasive surgeons a full line of Weck access devices, providing confidence, clarity and control during general and advanced laparoscopic procedures. The durable one piece stainless steel design incorporates the unique bladeless asymmetrical tip that dissects through tissue while maintaining muscle integrity. The reusable obturators are easily reprocessed within the hospital to help reduce waste and offer an efficient, longer lasting alternative to disposable devices.

“We are conscious of the patients’ needs and the challenges faced by surgeons in the operating room,” said Jay White, Vice President and General Manager, Surgical Division. “By expanding our line of access to include these new reusable obturators, Teleflex continues to affirm its commitment to addressing these needs and providing effective solutions that help enhance patient safety.”
