Susan G. Komen Chicagoland Announces Bonnie P. Gordon As New Executive Director

CHICAGO, April 12, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Bonnie P. Gordon joins Susan G. Komen® Chicagoland Area Affiliate (Komen Chicago) as its new Executive Director. For over 20 years, Bonnie, a two-time breast cancer survivor, has been active in the breast cancer community.

"Her philanthropic activities, combined with her extensive business background serving as Walgreens Director, Cause Marketing, made Bonnie the perfect choice," said Sean Tenner, President of Komen Chicago's Board of Directors.

Bonnie has served on the Board of Komen Chicago, including a term as President; was a longtime volunteer with Y-ME National Breast Cancer Organization, was active with the Cancer Wellness Center; and served on the boards of A Silver Lining Foundation and Imerman Angels.

"The need is so great in our area, I'm excited to expand Komen Chicago's role in the breast cancer community. The financial, emotional and physical challenges faced by someone who receives a breast cancer diagnosis is all of our concerns. In Chicago, an African-American woman is still more likely to die from breast cancer than her Caucasian sister; we need to help even the playing field against this foe. I'm looking forward to collaborating with our city's incredible business and civic community to create real change in the fight against this disease, and invite everyone to join us at the Mother's Day Race for the Cure on May 8th."  Register here.

Bonnie led Walgreen Co.'s strategic alliance partnerships with national non-profits, implementing new ways to focus on prevention and early detection of today's leading, chronic diseases including cancer. Her efforts include the rollout of the pin pad program in Walgreens stores, which resulted in more than $100 million of non-profit donations. Most recently, she served as Chief Sales and Marketing Officer at Wild4Good, helping non-profits maximize their fundraising and minimize their costs.
