Surgical Training Institute To Participate In The Bioskills Laboratory Management Symposium In Orlando

Richard Anthony, Ph.D., President of Surgical Training Institute (STI), will be participating on a panel for the 2010 BioSkills Laboratory Management Symposium to be held May 27th-28th, 2010, in Orlando, Florida. Dr. Anthony will be part of a panel convened to discuss “The Future Of Bioskills Facilities”. The symposium is designed to bring together bioskills laboratory professionals and the medical device industry personnel for the first of its kind conference to exchange ideas on ethics, innovation, and advancements in the bioskills laboratory arena.

Dr. Anthony points out, “What most people don’t recognize is that, unlike prescribing a drug, the safe effective application of a surgical device is as much “surgeon dependent” as product dependent. In order to gain experience physicians require extensive cadaver-based surgical training to replicate "real-world" tissue manipulation and surgical techniques, BEFORE they even try it on a live patient.. Cadaver training models have been shown to significantly improve surgical skills, and bioskills laboratories play an important role in the continuing need for physicians to gain experience and sharpen their skills”. There is rapidly increasing demand for bioskills facilities, with the capabilities and staffing to service the medical device industry’s training needs. This is fueled by FDA mandated training and education for certain medical devices, and because customer training is increasingly required by companies in order to minimize the litigation risk under state product liability and negligence law. “I am looking forward to participating in this forum, and expect to learn a great deal from my colleagues in the field.”

The Surgical Training Institute (STI) provides mobile bio-skills laboratories delivered to “the door step” of medical facilities, medical conventions, to train physicians, surgical support staff in new product applications and surgical techniques. To learn more visit us at : www.mobilesti.com.
