A Windsor pharmaceuticals plant will shut down in about six months, putting 32 people out of work. Sunovion Pharmaceuticals Inc. of Marlborough, Mass., said Wednesday its Sepracor Canada (Nova Scotia) Ltd. plant will cease operations near the middle of 2013. “Over the past decade, the industry has seen a shift in the manufacturing market dynamics for active pharmaceutical ingredients,” Vince Kosewski, the plant’s general manager, said Wednesday in an email. “The difficult decision to close our Windsor, Nova Scotia, plant is critical to our business strategy to remain competitive.” The company said in a news release earlier in the day it was making transition arrangements for affected employees. “This action will not affect Sunovion’s Canadian sales operation or the ability to develop or sell our medications in Canada.” Workers in Windsor were receiving news of the shutdown Wednesday, corporate spokeswoman Candace Steele Flippin said from Marlborough. “It is an unfortunate situation.” Sepracor Canada (Nova Scotia) Ltd. is an indirect subsidiary of Sunovion Pharmaceuticals.
