Sucampo Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Reports Third Quarter and Nine Months 2012 Financial and Operating Results

BETHESDA, Md.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sucampo Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (“Sucampo”), (NASDAQ: SCMP), a global pharmaceutical company, today reported its consolidated financial results for the quarter and nine months periods ended September 30, 2012. For the third quarter of 2012, total revenue grew approximately 8%, to $15.5 million from $14.4 million for the same period in 2011. For the first nine months of 2012, total revenue grew by 15%, to $46.6 million from $40.5 million during the same period in 2011. Net sales of AMITIZA®, as reported to us by our partner, Takeda, increased 24.2%, to $71.5 million, for the third quarter of 2012, compared to $57.6 million in the same period of 2011. During the third quarter of 2012, R&D and G&A expenses declined, while selling and marketing expenses increased, reflecting continued investment in business growth and a focus on continued productivity.
