NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Alzheimer’s Disease is the leading cause of dementia and from advanced onset, the course is usually 5 to 7 years. As the population ages, the number of Americans with AD may grow to as many as 16 million by 2050. The National Institute on Aging estimates that currently, 5% of people aged 65 to 74 years have AD. Concurrently, psychiatric disorders have been linked to both and threaten impaired functioning and in some cases, high function. According to the 2003 report of the U.S. President's New Freedom Commission on Mental Health, major mental illness is the most common cause of disability in the U.S.
