Spending on Biotech Drug Prescriptions Rising

CHICAGO (Reuters) - Biotech drugs will comprise a quarter of all spending on prescription drugs in five years, driven by broader uses for cancer and arthritis treatments, according to a study released on Wednesday. Spending on these so-called specialty drugs was about $54 billion in 2006 and is expected to rise to $99 billion by 2010, the report by pharmacy benefit manager Express Scripts Inc. said.
