Smiths Medical, Inc. Receives Innovative Technology Designation From Vizient For CADD-Solis V3.0 PIB Ambulatory Infusion Pump

Designation recognizes the development of new solutions that benefit the health care industry

MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Smiths Medical, a leading global medical device manufacturer of specialty infusion devices, announced today that its CADD-Solis v3.0 PIB Ambulatory Infusion Pump has received Innovative Technology designation from Vizient, Inc., the largest member-owned health care company in the country. The designation was based on reviews of CADD-Solis v3.0 PIB Ambulatory Infusion Pump by hospital experts who attended Vizient’s Innovative Technology Expo in November 2015. The annual event provides medical technology suppliers the opportunity to demonstrate their product and gain direct feedback from onsite clinical experts and health care providers on the impact their products may have on improving clinical care, safety, or benefits to organization’s care and business models.

“Vizient is committed to providing the members we serve with leading-edge technologies that deliver new clinical and operational benefits from what is currently available in the market today”

CADD-Solis v3.0 PIB Ambulatory Infusion Pump offers many technology enhancements. The single greatest improvement to the pump is that it offers integrated functionality for delivering Programmed Intermittent Bolus (PIB) for regional analgesia. These programmed pump-delivered boluses have been shown to more effectively manage pain as compared with traditional pump delivery methods such as low continuous rates. CADD-Solis v3.0 PIB Ambulatory Infusion Pump delivers improved patient satisfaction, decreased drug use and reduced unplanned clinician interventions by reducing failed blocks and motor block. Two clinical articles that provide compelling clinical evidence for Programmed Intermitted Bolus for labor and delivery analgesia are:

"Smiths Medical is honored to be recognized by Vizient with an Innovation Technology Designation for our CADD-Solis v3.0 PIB Ambulatory Infusion Pump, reinforcing confidence in our device" said Tom Chavez, Vice President, Sales, Americas, Smiths Medical. "CADD-Solis v3.0 PIB medication delivery is performed in conjunction with Patient Controlled Doses (PCA), to deliver medication in a manner that has been shown to be more effective in managing pain and in reducing drug consumption.”

“Vizient is committed to providing the members we serve with leading-edge technologies that deliver new clinical and operational benefits from what is currently available in the market today,” said Debbie Archer, director of procurement and leader of the Innovative Technology program for suppliers. “After reviewing Smiths Medical and CADD-Solis v3.0 PIB Ambulatory Infusion Pump at our annual Innovative Expo, the hospital experts who attended agreed the product offers unique and incremental benefit over other products available on the market today, and recommended it for the Innovative Technology designation.
