The chief executive of biotech Smith & Nephew has declined to comment on speculation that he is interested in taking the recently-vacated top spot at French drugmaker Sanofi.

CEO Olivier Bohuon told Reuters in London on Thursday that he will not be commenting on the rumors that he will replace recently ousted Sanofi CEO Christopher Viehbacher.

Insiders reported Thursday that the company’s board discussed the CEO position earlier in the year with AstraZeneca CEO Pascal Soriot. The sources indicate Soriot was not interested in the position.

However, Bohuon would be an ideal choice for the Sanofi job. He has been CEO at Smith & Nephew since April 2011, after serving as CEO of Pierre Fabre Group and president of Pierre Fabre Medicament SA previously. Prior to that, he was an executive vice president of the Abbott Corporation and president of its pharmaceutical division.
