Short Laser Pulses "Tune" Gold Nanoparticles, Rice University Study

At different wavelengths, pulsed laser light can individually activate different types of nanoparticles—in this case, shells, rods, and solid spheres mixed together. Plasmonic gold nanoparticles make pinpoint heating on demand possible, but a new way of using short laser pulses to selectively heat diverse nanoparticles could advance their medical and industrial use.
