Minneapolis / St. Paul Business Journal by Katharine Grayson, Staff reporter

Med-tech firm Shape Medical Systems Inc., which sells a device that physicians use to evaluate shortness of breath, has raised about $8.3 million in capital, according to a regulatory filing.

The White Bear Lake-based firm is seeking a total of $12.5 million. Andrew Hofmeister, who became CEO of Shape Medical last year, couldn’t be reached for comment on the round of financing before press time.

Founded in 2004, the firm has developed a system that allows physicians to gauge patients’ shortness of breath, a symptom of heart failure and other diseases that can affect both the heart and lungs.
