Sentillion, Inc. ReleaseL Robert Seliger Appointed To Lead HIMSS Steering Committee For Integration And Interoperability Of Healthcare Information Systems

ANDOVER, Mass., Oct. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Sentillion, Inc., the leading provider of identity and access management solutions to the healthcare industry, announced today that its president and CEO, Robert Seliger, has been appointed chair of the Healthcare Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS) steering committee on Integration and Interoperability. As chair, Seliger will lead the group that is responsible for overseeing the HIMSS' Committees, Task Forces, and Work Groups that are focused on Integration and Interoperability to ensure consistency with the Society's strategic plan. Seliger, who was appointed by the HIMSS Board of Directors, will serve a three-year term.

The newly formed Integration and Interoperability Steering Committee will utilize the committee members' collective insights and broad industry experience to help provide strategic guidance on Integration and Interoperability initiatives. In an effort to ensure a comprehensive set of industry guidelines and recommendation, Seliger and the committee will closely evaluate the work already underway in the public sector, specifically the Framework for Strategic Action outlined by the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology, and work with leaders within Federal agencies to help identify best practices and approaches.

"Today, there are no universally agreed-upon processes, architectures, or standards in place when it comes to the exchange of healthcare information. This creates substantial barriers as the industry seeks to accelerate efforts to enable caregiver and patient access to healthcare data and provide cross- enterprise health information exchange," said Carla Smith, NCMN, FHIMSS, HIMSS Executive Vice President and Executive Director, HIMSS Foundation. "Robert Seliger is a recognized leader in the advancement of healthcare interoperability standards and together with the rest of the Committee we intend to take a look at current initiatives and models, create a better understanding, identify gaps and provide realistic tactics for overcoming these issues."

Currently, Seliger serves as president and CEO of Sentillion and co-chair of the Health Level Seven (HL7) CCOW Committee. Prior to co-founding Sentillion, Seliger was a distinguished scientist, senior R&D manager, and chief architect of an international team responsible for the development of Hewlett-Packard Medical Product Group's largest portfolio of clinical information system products. Seliger received a master's degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a bachelor's degree from Cornell University.

"HIMSS continues to play a pivotal role in defining the role of and giving visibility to technology in the healthcare industry," said Seliger. "Its insights will also be invaluable to the industry as HIMSS considers the unfolding national agenda and the recommendations of the Framework for Strategic Action outlined by the Office of the National Coordinator for Health

Information Technology. As the industry responds to these recommendations, this new steering committee will help frame the debate."

The Committee is comprised of an industry cross section: representatives from provider organizations, clinicians, consultants, vendors, administrators and healthcare IT professionals.
