SAN CLEMENTE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sensory Medical Inc., the pioneering medical device manufacturer and creator of the RelaxisTM device for Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS), has appointed David Baker as its president and chief executive officer, the company announced today.

A seasoned medical technology executive with more than two decades of experience in the sleep technology industry, Baker previously was the CEO of MyCardio, a startup focused on sleep quality measures. He also spent several years in sleep diagnostics and sleep services at Embla, SleepTech and Phoenix Sleep.

“We expect David to make important contributions during a critical time in our company’s history, as we prepare for the commercial launch of Relaxis, which represents a promising therapeutic option for millions of RLS sufferers,” said Dr. Fred Burbank, founder of Sensory Medical.

About Relaxis and Sensory Medical Inc.

Sensory Medical Inc. developed the pioneering Relaxis device, which is the first FDA approved, non-pharmacological approach to help improve the quality of sleep in patients with primary RLS. According to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, an estimated 12 million Americans currently suffer from RLS, a progressive neurological condition that causes discomfort, pain and sleep disruption through repeated attacks. Relaxis was designed to provide physical relief of RLS and improve patients’ quality of sleep through vibratory counterstimulation. The device will be available on a prescription-only basis in the U.S. starting in the fourth quarter of 2014.

Additional details about Relaxis are available at Sensory Medical’s website, www.sensorymedical.com. Based in San Clemente, Calif., the privately-held company was formed in 2009 after the company’s CEO, Fred Burbank, M.D., began experiencing RLS and sought a mechanical solution to relieve the condition’s symptoms.
