Vienna, Austria, December 3, 2012 – SEE ALGAE Technology GmbH ("SAT" or the
"Company"), a leading developer of infrastructure for the commercial production of high-quality
algae, will present at the upcoming International Algae Congress in Rotterdam, The Netherlands.
SAT CEO Dr. Joachim Grill will discuss the Company’s progress in using photobioreactors to
produce biofuels and livestock feed from algae at commercial scale.
Scheduled for December 4-5, 2012, the 6th Annual International Algae Congress will bring
together leading academic and commercial experts to discuss new developments in algae
cultivation technology.
“The global renewable fuels markets are rapidly evolving and the various production paths are
being tested at commercial scale, so the competitive advantages of algae are becoming
increasingly important,” said Dr. Grill. “The International Algae Congress represents a real
opportunity for us to show that algae – and particularly algae grown in high yield
photobioreactors – is the clear way to overcome the hurdles that have historically prevented
biofuels from competing with oil at price parity on a meaningful scale.”
“We believe that the industry needs to move beyond the pond-based cultivation methods that
have been shown to be inefficient time and time again,” continued Dr. Grill. “SAT’s
photobioreactors offer high yields, consistently low input costs unaffected by volatile global food
and energy markets, zero need for arable land, and – perhaps most significantly – our
photobioreactors are already available at the commercial scale sought by the biofuels market.”
SEE ALGAE Technology was recently awarded the Brazilian Bioenergy Innovation of the Year
2012 Award for its work with Brazil’s Grupo JB. The Award recognized the potential of the
Company’s cutting edge algae cultivation technology to be a major boost for the global
commercialization of microalgae-based biofuels.
