Scientist Forms New Biotech Company RFS Pharma LLC

10/19/2005 5:09:07 PM

One of the Emory University AIDS researchers who helped bring the school a record-setting $525 million royalty deal from the anti-HIV drug Emtriva is going to use part of his share to start a new bioscience company in Atlanta. Though the university gets 60 percent of the money, the three researchers who developed the drug -- Raymond F. Schinazi, Dennis Liotta and Woo-Baeg Choi -- are sharing the remaining $210 million. Schinazi plans to spend about $12 million to launch RFS Pharma LLC in Tucker next month to develop antiviral and anticancer drugs, with a focus on HIV and Hepatitis C.
