SciClone Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Appoints Hong Zhao as CEO

FOSTER CITY, CA--(Marketwire - March 22, 2013) - SciClone Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ: SCLN) today announced the appointment of Hong Zhao as Chief Executive Officer, China Operations. Mr. Zhao is an accomplished, respected pharmaceutical industry executive with more than 20 years of experience in leading the commercial operations, market expansion and growth of multi-national companies in China.

Mr. Zhao joins SciClone from Simcere Pharmaceutical Group, a leading pharmaceutical company specializing in the development, manufacturing, and marketing of branded and proprietary pharmaceuticals in China, where he served as Executive Vice President, responsible for all business operations, including leading a sizeable sales team and managing multiple business units, and had direct reporting responsibility for medical affairs, market access, marketing and sales operations, training and personnel development. Prior to Simcere, he held positions of increasing seniority at Novartis China, from Regional Sales Manager, National Sales Director, Vice President, Senior Vice President of Novartis Greater China and General Manager of Novartis Shanghai. Mr. Zhao also served with Xi'an Janssen Pharmaceutical, where he rose quickly from Medical Representative to District Sales Manager. Earlier in his career he served as a lecturer and tutor at Nanjing Medical College. Mr. Zhao earned a Bachelor of Medicine degree from Nanjing Medical College and an Executive Masters of Business Administration degree from China European International Business School (CEIBS) in Shanghai. He is fluent in Mandarin and in English.
