FRANKLIN, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--RyMed Technologies has signed a supply agreement with Medical Action Industries, Inc. (MAI), which will make RyMed’s zero-displacement, truly neutral IV connectors more widely available to hospitals. MAI has agreements with most of the major group purchasing organizations (GPOs) to provide IV therapy devices, a category that includes RyMed’s InVision-Plus® connectors. This means RyMed’s advanced infection-control technology will now be more widely available to hospitals that purchase through GPOs.

“We’re very pleased to be able to supply our company’s potentially lifesaving product to many more hospitals and patients through this agreement,” said Dana Ryan, RyMed’s president and CEO.

Medical Action Industries Inc., based in Brentwood, N.Y., develops, manufactures, and supplies a wide array of high-quality disposable medical products to healthcare providers. It is the leading manufacturer/supplier of products in a number of medical supply categories, including infusion therapy kits and trays.

“Medical Action is proud to add the RyMed products to its high-quality IV therapy kit and tray offering,” said Cindy Bell, President and General Manager of the Minor Procedure Kit and Tray Business Unit. “Through this agreement, Medical Action is able to provide hospitals with a new and higher level of safety in IV therapy needleless connectors.”

Needleless IV connectors help provide IV therapy, blood administration and/or blood draws for patients without the use of needles. The InVision-Plus IV connector improves upon defects in earlier needleless IV connector designs that potentially increased bloodstream infections and/or occlusions. The connector’s zero-fluid-displacement safety design means there is no potentially dangerous blood reflux into the catheter upon connection to or disconnection from a syringe or IV tubing set.

The zero-displacement RyMed InVision-Plus also has a straight fluid pathway with no dead space, so it is easy to flush clean. Other needleless IV connector designs could trap blood in the pathway, which may lead to bacterial colonization and biofilm formation.
