Royal Phillips Electronics Wants to Bring Google Inc. Glass to the Operating Room

A handful of digital health start-ups, and avant-garde surgeons are looking for ways to apply Goggle Glass to health care, but in a move that could significantly raise the profile of this nascent technology, Royal Philips PHG +2.91% is stepping in. After testing Google GOOG +0.55% Glass in its labs, the Dutch giant plans to gauge customer interest in developing the Google Glass platform in the operating room. Philips, which reported $34 billion in revenue last year, has half of the patient monitor market worldwide. The machine records a patient’s vital signs during surgery. “Does it (patient monitoring with Google Glass) work? Yes,” says Anthony Jones, chief marketing officer of Patient Care and Clinical Informatics at Philips Healthcare.
