Rigorous Exercise Linked To Longer Life, University of Sydney Study

A team of Australian researchers found that middle-aged or older people who get at least some high-intensity rigorous exercise may reduce their chances of dying early by up to 13 percent.

The new large study in JAMA Internal Medicine suggests that indeed vigorous exercise, regardless of body weight or chronic disease status, can reduce early mortality significantly.

“The benefits of vigorous activity applied to men and women of all ages, and were independent of the total amount of time spent being active, the results indicate that whether or not you are obese, and whether or not you have heart disease or diabetes, if you can manage some vigorous activity it could offer significant benefits for longevity”, said lead author Klaus Gebel.
