Miami, Florida (PRWEB) July 12, 2013 -- As reported by the Mail Online (UK) on 7/9 titled “Just three pints of beer a week can dull your brain by 20% and make it harder to react to stimulus,” a new research study published in the journal Alcohol and Alcoholism states that even moderate drinking can permanently slow down one's brain.

Those who feel they are experiencing an alcohol dependency should seek qualified medical help by contacting a certified detox center such as Harbor Village. At Harbor Village, a premier drug and alcohol and detox facility located in beautiful Miami, Florida, clients can check in anonymously and receive private alcohol treatment tailored specifically to their needs. Each client enjoys a very comfortable stay in a state-of-the-art environment. Accommodations include an attractively furnished suite, 30,000 square foot outdoor lounge area, spa, salon, massage and acupuncture services, Netflix and Internet access, healthy, gourmet dining and personalized care from the attentive staff.

For the study, researchers at Spain's University of Santiago de Compostela measured the results of 26 binge drinker students—those who drank at least six units of alcohol at one time, once a week—with 31 students who did not drink alcohol. Then after drinking the alcohol, participants were told to react to various flashing symbols. It was found that the binge drinkers had to use 20% more brain power to achieve the same results as the non-drinkers.

According to the article, “Just three pints of beer a week can dull your brain by 20% and make it harder to react to stimulus,” researchers say this proves that drinkers “experience anomalies in neural activity” which can impact their working memory and their ability to pay attention. Emily Robinson, director of the campaign group Alcohol Concern says, “Binge drinking carries lots of risks in terms of the immediate safety of students, but also in terms of their future health and the likelihood of developing an alcohol problem later in life.”

“Alcohol abuse can start innocently enough with just a few drinks and then evolve into a serious dependency. At a detox center like Harbor Village, you will be guided on a path to recovery,” said Robert Niznik, Harbor Village CEO.
