Rainer Rudolph Foundation Launches Search for Young Talents in Protein Biotechnology
The Rainer Rudolph Foundation was established in 2011 by friends, companions, former colleagues and staff of the late Professor Dr. Rainer Rudolph on order to honour his outstanding scientific work. Prior to his passing in 2009, Professor Dr. Rudolph was among the world's leading protein biochemists as well as the co-founder of Scil Proteins GmbH, the company now sponsoring the Rainer Rudolph Foundation.
Dr. Ulrike Fiedler, CEO of the Foundation and CEO of Scil Proteins, said: "During his work, Professor Dr. Rudolph placed particular emphasis on linking scientific research with industrial applications and consequently, the foundation of Scil Proteins was a logical step for him. Through the years, we came to know and appreciate Professor Dr. Rudolph as a highly respected scientist and competent industrial partner. The Rainer Rudolph prizes have been established to encourage upcoming generations of scientists to excel in their work and therefore, I hope a lot of young researchers in the fields of protein biochemistry and biotechnology will apply."

About the Rainer Rudolph Foundation
The Rainer Rudolph Foundation was established in May 2011 as a charitable foundation to honour the work of Professor Dr. Rainer Rudolph as a scientifically-outstanding and internationally-leading protein biochemist. After his habilitation at the University of Regensburg in 1984, he worked for several years as a department manager at Boehringer Mannheim (now Roche Diagnostics). In 1994, he was offered a C4-professorship at the Martin-Luther-University Halle-Wittenberg and there, he managed to build a powerful technical biochemistry department. Together with Ulrike Fiedler and BioNet Holding GmbH, he founded Scil Proteins GmbH in 1999.
The Foundation will continue to address matters of particular concern to Rainer Rudolph such as the combination of academic and industrial research, the transformation of scientific insights into application and, in particular, the encouragement of young scientists. Its mission is to promote basic and applied research in the fields of protein biochemistry and biotechnology. The Foundation primarily addresses young scientists who have made extraordinary accomplishments in this area.
