Prometheus Research Announces $1M In Expanded Funding From Public And Private Sectors, Sees Broader Applications For Their Integrated Registry Platform

NEW HAVEN, Conn., May 11, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Prometheus Research announced today they have received nearly $1M in additional support from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and health-focused private philanthropies for their work developing open-source integrated registry software and related clinical research informatics data standards.

Building on the success of their Phase I SBIR award from the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), two new NIH awards provide significant additional funding for enhancing Prometheus' Research Exchange Database (RexDB®) platform with features required in interventional research. The Phase I SBIR focused on confirming the ability of RexDB to support observational research being conducted in the field of autism. The new awards expand the platform by designing a research instrument definition format that would facilitate interoperability among popular electronic data capture (EDC) tools, such REDCap, Qualtrics, and Prometheus' own RexSurvey.

"The ability to use a single integrated registry platform for both observational and interventional research projects will be a boon to every research center and academic medical center trying to improve data quality while controlling costs," said David Voccola, Chief Business Development Officer at Prometheus. "Now imagine coupling those savings with the ability to configure a research instrument once, and use it across all of the different EDC tools at your center."

The latter also caught the attention of the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA), who selected Prometheus CEO, Dr. Leon Rozenblit, to present on the topic at its 2015 Joint Summits on Translational Science. His talk, entitled "Developing a Suite of Electronic Data Capture Applications Based on an Open-Source Instrument Definition Standard," described both a suite of tools for facilitating the sharing, reuse, and management of EDC research instruments, as well as Prometheus' partnership with the Open Science Framework, who will host the sharable online library of instruments.

Complementing the public funding is the continued sponsorship of Prometheus technologies by several prominent philanthropic institutions who wish to improve patient outcomes and advance scientific research across the health continuum.
