ST. PAUL, Minn., Feb. 25, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Prime Therapeutics (Prime), a leading pharmacy benefit manager, has earned CEO Cancer Gold Standard from the CEO Roundtable on Cancer, in recognition of its efforts to promote workplace wellness and encourage healthier behaviors of employees and their families.

"Prime is proud to be a part of the national effort to raise awareness about cancer and the lifestyle choices related to cancer-related illnesses," said Eric Elliott, president and CEO of Prime Therapeutics. "We want our workplace to support our employees in their efforts to be to be as healthy as possible."

To receive a Gold Standard accreditation, Prime established programs to (1) reduce cancer risk through discouraging tobacco use, encouraging physical activity and teaching diet and nutrition; (2) detect cancer at its earliest stages; and (3) provide access to quality care and clinical trials.

Through Prime's wellness program, be well, employees and their families are encouraged to use a variety of Prime's resources and opportunities that contribute to their physical, emotional and financial health. Be well, which launched in 2010, includes components such as

  • a tobacco-free workplace policy,
  • employee health benefits that cover smoking cessation, nutrition and weight control programs, fitness center reimbursement, cancer screening tests and exams, and access to cancer care and qualifying clinical trials,
  • generous rewards for participating in wellness programs and challenges, and
  • complimentary healthful snacks once a week for employees.

Prime's wellness efforts have been highly praised and recognized by MinneapolisStar Tribune (No. 19 Top 100 Workplaces in Minnesota), Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal (Top Three Healthiest Employers) and Minnesota Business magazine (No. 3 Best 100 Companies to Work For).

About CEO Roundtable on Cancer
The CEO Roundtable on Cancer is a nonprofit organization of cancer-fighting CEOs who created the CEO Cancer Gold Standard in collaboration with the National Cancer Institute. The organization was founded in 2001, when former President George H.W. Bush challenged a group of executives to "do something bold and venturesome about cancer within your own corporate families." The CEOs responded by creating and encouraging the widespread adoption of the CEO Cancer Gold Standard, a comprehensive program designed to combat cancer from every angle by focusing on prevention, early detection and quality care. Today, more than 3 million employees and family members are benefiting from the vision and leadership of employers who have chosen to become Gold Standard accredited.
