Popular Heartburn Meds Boost Heart Attack Risk, Stanford University Study

Based on results of a new study from researchers at Houston Methodist and Stanford University, adults who take proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) for heartburn and other gastrointestinal ailments are between 16 and 21 percent more likely to experience a heart attack than those who do not use the widely available acid blocker.

The study was published online June 10 in the Journal, PLOS ONE.
