Budapest, Hungary - 22nd May, 2013 -- About 10 o’clock, during BioForum 2013 opening ceremony, with witnesses from Hungarian and Polish government, cooperation agreement between Polish Biotech Association (PBA) and Hungarian Biotechnology Association (HBA) was signed. This document indicates the most crucial purposes for development of Life Science sector in Hungary, Poland and in whole Central and Eastern Europe region.

On the behalf of HBA cooperation agreement was signed by Erno Duda, president of this association. PBA will be represented by Tadeusz Pietrucha, president of Polish organization. Governments of both countries were represented by Gra¿yna Henclewska, undersecretary of Polish Ministry of Economy and by Cséfalvay Zoltán, viceminister of Hungarian National Economy.

The agreement enumerates the most important and significant goals for both associations and appoints frames of mutual cooperation. Both organizations are going to promote biotechnology development in Poland and Hungary and share its experience and to create a biotech friendly environment, both governmental and social. Additionally HBA and PBA are aiming coordinate its activity to attract big, worldwide biotech companies for cooperation and to obtain international R&D grants, especially funded by the European Union. Certainly, such cooperation will constitute powerful impulse for growth of biotechnological markets in countries of region and strengthen position of region in competition with another Life Science markets.

- I am very glad that I can be here today. Global biotech market, global biobusiness is hard to reach for small and medium companies from CEE region. Therefore, we have to cooperate to show our potential in contemporary biotech world. So, it was natural, that idea of signing cooperation agreement has comen from both associations: HBA and PBA. Neither Hungarian nor Polish market is not independent enough to be able to compete with the biggest global players, but together we can face this challenge – said Tadeusz Pietrucha from PBA.

- Hungary and Poland separately are not able to build effective and strong business cluster for biotech sector, which additionally could be significant in global scale. But now, after signing cooperation agreement we have a great chance to create such a cluster, which will develop in scale of international biotech market and, at the same time, will support local initiative and start-ups. Signing of agreement is a first step to do it – said Erno Duda, president of HBA. For Central and Eastern Europe countries biotechnology plays increasing role. There are over 300 hundreds companies, mainly in Poland, Hungary and in Czech Republic. Their core businesses cover exploring biosimilar drugs, carrying clinical research, development of personalized medicine, delivering intermediates and equipment and many other. BioForum is annual event aiming to create multilateral biobusiness cooperation and to build an effective market for biotechnology services and R&D partnerships within the Central and Eastern Europe region. During the BioForum event, companies are able to communicate with investors and scientists from the CEE region, where everyone can offer equal terms for partnership. So far, the established partnerships have quickly translated into economic benefits. Contemporary BioForum is the biggest such meeting in CEE region.
