PLUS Diagnostics Launches Expert Genitourinary Pathology Consultation Service
Dr. Savera is a leader in the field and has been providing GU pathology second opinion consultations for almost a decade, including such consultative diagnosis for thousands of patients at a large academic urology referral center. He was a senior staff physician at Henry Ford Hospital, where he led GU pathology services and research and played an instrumental role in revamping the hospital's GU pathology service to support the launch of its globally acclaimed robotic prostate surgery program.
Dr. Savera has been recognized by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for his contributions to the field of prostate cancer and is also listed as one of America's top physicians by the Consumer Research Council of America. Dr. Savera most recently served as Chief GU pathologist and medical director for a private lab and offered specialized urologic pathology and consultation services nationwide.
"The addition of Dr. Savera to our team is another example of our commitment to providing the highest quality of service to our customers and patients. He is one of the best and brightest talents in GU Pathology," said Dr. Mohammad Kamal, chief medical officer, PLUS Diagnostics. "Dr. Savera has played a vital role in further development of our national GU Pathology program as we continue to introduce new services and state-of-the-art technologies. The GU consultation service is another step in this direction and makes it effortless for a clinician or patient to take advantage of Dr. Savera's expertise and obtain an expert second opinion and other recommendations."
Dr. Savera completed his internship at Howard University Hospital, his pathology residency at Henry Ford Hospital and oncologic pathology fellowship at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. He has participated in numerous research grants funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and has authored more than 70 peer-reviewed papers and abstracts.
"Given that the interpretation of many urologic specimens can be challenging for general pathologists and that pathologic diagnosis is the foundation for all subsequent patient treatment, obtaining a second opinion from an expert, especially for those with equivocal (atypical) and malignant diagnoses is highly recommended," said Dr. Savera.
