Pfizer, the US drug giant, has announced a $130 million investment at two of its Irish plants. The company will invest $100 million at its biologics operation in Grange Castle, west Dublin, and a further $30 million at Ringaskiddy, Co Cork. Pfizer said this morning that the money will allow the to plants to get involved in work with new drugs that are coming through the pipeline at Pfizer. It will also enable them to pitch for work at an early developmental stage of the process, rather than waiting for such products to move into the market manufacture stage. However, neither upgrade is expected to deliver additional employment at the plants but it will allow them work. ‘’There is opportunity for Pfizer’s Irish sites to attract the development of new medicines, while also continuing to manufacture existing, important medicines,” said Paul Duffy, vice-president of Pfizer, at the announcement.
