Pfizer Inc.'s Read is Pharma Industry's Highest-Paid CEO

Pfizer Inc. Chief Executive Ian Read was the highest-paid chief executive officer among the world’s largest pharmaceutical companies last year, according to Bloomberg News. New York-based Pfizer (NYSE: PFE) boosted Read’s pay by 2.5 percent to $25.6 million in 2012, the news agency reported, citing Bloomberg Industries analyst Sam Fazel. Novo Nordisk’s Lars Rebien Soerensen was the lowest-paid CEO with $5 million. Fazel said pay for top managers in the United States eclipsed those of their European counterparts. The median pay of CEOs at large pharmaceutical companies in the U.S. was $17.2 million last year, 85 percent more than the $9.3 million European average.
