Open Prairie Ventures Invests $7 Million in KC BioMediX, Inc.

Kansas City-based Open Prairie Ventures has invested in a St. Louis agricultural biotech firm in a round of financing totaling $7 million. Open Prairie Ventures, which has offices in Kansas City and Illinois, has two portfolio companies in the area: KC BioMedix Inc. in Shawnee and Novita Therapeutics in Olathe. Open Prairie was among several other companies and individuals to invest in NewLeaf Symbiotics. The others included Rockport Capital, with offices in Boston and Menlo Park, Calif., and Vancouver-based Pangaea Ventures.
