Novation Applauds HSCA's 'Total Visibility Project' To Improve Patient Safety, Accuracy And Accessibility Of Product Information Available To The Health Care Supply Chain

IRVING, Texas, Nov. 3, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Novation, the health care services company for the members of VHA Inc., UHC, Children's Hospital Association and Provista LLC, today commended the Health Care Supply Chain Association's (HSCA) Committee for Healthcare eStandards (CHeS) for its launch of the Total Visibility Project. The project establishes a data synchronization best practice for product information that will improve patient safety and efficiency in the health care supply chain. As part of the program, suppliers may publish a set of common, minimum product attributes to the Global Data Synchronization Network (GDSN), which will then be immediately available to GPO hospitals and provider members.

An active member of CHeS, Novation fully supports the recommendations set forth by the committee's Total Visibility Project. Jody Hatcher, president and CEO of Novation and chairman of HSCA, said, "Novation has long advocated for the advancement of data standards, so we are especially pleased to have partnered with the GPO community on this important initiative in support of the hospitals we serve."

Dan Sweeney, Novation's senior vice president of Information and Data Services, said, "This is an outstanding development. Provider access to timely, accurate product information is essential to the delivery of safe, efficient patient care, and the identification of minimum product attributes for use by all suppliers and GPOs will significantly enhance providers' accessibility to current and accurate information."

To advance this effort, Novation will work with its suppliers to implement the CHeS recommendations as outlined in HSCA's Total Visibility Project. This includes ensuring that supplier product information is shared via the GDSN, an automated, standards-based global environment for the electronic transfer of standardized product information between trading partners.
