As part of its plan to shrink operations at its manufacturing plant in Nebraska, Novartis has sold the US rights to six over-the-counter products, including five that were made at the highly troubled facility. The sale, which was finalized in February, comes as the drugmaker undertakes a strategic review of its over-the-counter product portfolio after a protracted period of weakening sales due to ongoing manufacturing problems. The products that were sold were the Bufferin headache reliever; the Comtrex cough-and-cold reliever; the Doan’s pain reliever; the Myoflex pain relieving cream; the Nupercainal hemorrhoid cream and the Cruex anti-fungal treatment. With the exception of Cruex, all of the products were made at the Lincoln, Nebraska, plant. The drugs were purchased by Duchere Pharma.
