NIH Expected To Enact One-Year Ban On Outside Consulting For Its Researchers

All scientists at the National Institutes of Health would be forced to end ongoing collaborations with pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies and would be prevented from accepting new consulting jobs for at least one year under a proposal submitted to the federal Office of Government Ethics (OGE) and Department of Health and Human Services. The decision was made after an internal NIH investigation revealed more conflict-of-interest problems than had been anticipated, according to Raynard Kington, deputy director of the NIH.
